What is the difference between ternary and LFP battery?

What is the difference between ternary and lithium iron phosphate(LFP) battery? Speak clearly at once.

Most electric vehicles today use lithium batteries. There are two common types of lithium batteries, one is ternary lithium battery and the other is lithium iron phosphate battery. When facing these two types of lithium batteries, many car owners do not know how to choose, which one is good? What are the differences between them? Today, the editor will analyze the relevant content about these two types of lithium batteries with everyone, hoping to be helpful.

First, the difference between ternary lithium battery and lithium iron phosphate battery

The difference between the two types of lithium batteries is that the materials are different. That is to say, the lithium iron phosphate battery uses lithium iron phosphate as the positive electrode, and the ternary lithium battery mainly uses nickel cobalt aluminum or nickel cobalt manganese as the positive electrode.

Their commonality is that they both use graphene as the negative electrode material, but the difference is that they have different requirements for the positive electrode material.

Differences between the second, ternary lithium battery and lithium iron phosphate battery

1. Different service life

The cycle life of lithium iron phosphate battery is better than that of ternary lithium battery. The normal ternary lithium battery has a nominal cycle of about 2000 times, but its capacity will decline to half when it is recycled for no more than 1000 times.

The lithium iron phosphate battery is also used for 1000 cycles, and its capacity is generally only reduced to about 20%.

2. Different energy densities

The energy density of the ternary lithium battery is higher than that of the lithium iron phosphate battery. The energy density means the endurance. With the same capacity of the battery, the volume of lithium iron phosphate is much larger than that of the ternary lithium battery.

3. Different low-temperature resistance

The low temperature resistance of the ternary lithium battery is better than that of the lithium iron phosphate battery. For example, the ternary lithium battery can release about 70% of the power at minus 20 degrees Celsius, while the lithium iron phosphate battery can only release about 50% of the power at the same low temperature.

4. Different security

The thermal stability of lithium iron phosphate battery is higher than that of ternary lithium battery, and lithium iron phosphate battery is safer relatively.

5. It’s just that the prices are different

The cathode material used inside a ternary lithium battery is cobalt material, which is actually quite expensive. Therefore, the cost of using a ternary lithium battery is much higher than that of lithium iron phosphate.

The above is the difference between the ternary lithium battery and the lithium iron phosphate battery. It can be seen from the summary that these two kinds of lithium batteries have their own strengths and advantages. For friends in the cold north, the ternary lithium battery is more advantageous, while for friends with financial constraints, the lithium iron phosphate battery follows.

So, these two types of lithium batteries have their own strengths and weaknesses. How much do you know about lithium batteries? Tell me your opinion.
