LUSAKA, ZAMBIA – Lingtech, a global leader in energy storage solutions, today announced that its 430kWh/200kW hybrid battery energy storage system (Hybrid BESS), launched in March 2024, has been successfully delivered to and commissioned at Zambia Southern Water and Sanitation Company Limited. This milestone marks a significant step forward in Lingtech’s strategic expansion across the African market.
Zambia has long struggled with an unstable power grid, where frequent blackouts severely disrupt the continuous operation of critical water facilities. Lingtech’s 430kWh/200kW BESS is engineered specifically to address such challenges. The system not only supports direct photovoltaic (PV) integration but also features an ultra-fast automatic transfer switch that transitions from grid to battery power within milliseconds during an outage—ensuring zero downtime for essential water treatment equipment.
A standout feature of this system is its seamless integration with diesel generators. In the event of a prolonged grid outage with depleted battery reserves, the diesel generator automatically kicks in as a backup, allowing the PV system to continue generating power throughout the day. This truly enables a “PV + Storage + Diesel” hybrid energy model. For Zambia Southern Water, this translates into dramatically reduced diesel consumption, maximized utilization of the country’s abundant solar resources, and significant operational cost savings.
Lingtech’s 430kWh/200kW BESS incorporates advanced liquid cooling technology, which maintains optimal battery temperatures for superior thermal management. Compared to conventional air-cooled systems, this significantly extends battery cycle life and enhances overall safety. The system supports both off-grid and on-grid operation modes and can initiate black-start functionality—meaning it can start up using solar power alone even in remote areas with no grid connection at all.
The intelligent energy management system automatically orchestrates power flow among PV, grid, battery, and generator based on real-time electricity tariffs and load demand, prioritizing solar energy to minimize reliance on unstable utility power.

Beyond its success in Zambia, the Lingtech 430kWh/200kW BESS has gained rapid traction across Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia—regions where power instability is a daily reality. Strong demand has been reported in Nigeria, South Africa, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Rwanda, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda, Djibouti, as well as across Southeast Asian and Middle Eastern markets.
The system’s versatility makes it an ideal power backup solution for a broad spectrum of applications, including:
Public Facilities: Schools, libraries, government offices, and public service institutions
Commercial & Industrial: Factories, manufacturing plants, steel mills
Agriculture & Mining: Rice mills, quarries, mining operations
Infrastructure: Parking lots, telecom base stations, and any facility requiring uninterrupted power in grid-unstable regions
